Gastroenterology Nurses provide care for patients who have known or suspected problems with their gastrointestinal tracts, or patients who are undergoing treatment for such problems. Day-to-day tasks include carrying out pre and post-procedure patient education, collecting blood or fecal samples, and implementing dietary changes to maintain a healthy GI tract

Responsibilities:

Assist with the Administration, Maintenance, and Monitoring of Conscious sedation Carry out pre and post-procedure patient education Assist with Colonoscopy/Endoscopy procedures Sterilize Equipment Diet changes to maintain a healthy GI Tact Work with licensed GI physicians to assist in diagnosing and treating diverse medical conditions impacting the digestive tract Review patients’ medical history Inquire about patients’ symptoms Check vital signs Collect blood or fecal samples

Qualifications:

  • BS in Nursing (BSN) National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN)
  • Certification of Gastroenterology Nurses (ABCGN)
