Summary:

The diverse cultures of the Kingdom of Bahrain make it an interesting and fascinating place to work at. The culture of the country varies from the cultures in Western countries, therefore prior to moving to the country, it is important that you read about the rules and regulations beforehand. If you are worried about being in a foreign country all alone, there are also many Filipino nurses who work in the country. Aside from that, the country also offers high salaries, and a wide range of job opportunities for aspiring foreign nurses.

About the Country

Bahrain is recognized for providing a great quality of life to its people, as it was recently placed among the top five countries in the world in an expat survey. Bahrain’s official religion is Islam, although due to foreign nationals making up a large portion of the population, the Muslims account for just 70 percent of the population. The Christian minority, on the other hand, constitutes around 14.5 percent of the population, making it the second largest religious group in the country.

The culture of the country varies in some ways from that of the Western culture. One of which is that the majority of the citizens in Bahrain are conservative. Even if religious tolerance is widespread in everyday life, it is critical that local and religious norms are respected. For instance, in public, foreigners, particularly western women, must dress appropriately. There are also rules governing how men and women should interact in public. One of which is that public displays of affection are deemed disrespectful, and are hence forbidden, especially during the holy month of Ramadan. In addition, similar to other Islamic countries, due to the Islamic law, local individuals are prohibited from alcohol consumption. It is legal for non-muslim individuals to consume alcohol, which may be bought from licensed establishments. However, drinking in public, as well as drunken behavior, is a serious violation. In fact, the country strictly prohibits drunk driving.

If you choose to work in the country, the thought of having Filipinos with you in a foreign country could be comforting. With this, you could join the Philippine Nurses Association Bahrain Chapter, which is a group that aims “to enhance the image, unify and promote the welfare of the Filipino nurses in the Kingdom of Bahrain”. Due to the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Health Services Cooperation between the governments of Bahrain and the Philippines, there are many Filipino nurses in the country. This permits Bahraini nurses to undergo their medical training in the Philippines, and it also allows the recruitment of Filipino nurses to Bahrain.
